Itinerary

We will depart from Huaraz, heading south after breakfast. First, we will travel through typical villages of the Peruvian highlands, enjoying charming rural landscapes. Then, we will arrive in Quartelhuain to set up our first camp. You will enjoy lunch and dinner while your body acclimatizes to the altitude. Finally, we will prepare to begin the official trek the following day.

We will leave Quartelhuain towards our first challenge: the Cacananpunta Pass (4,700m). From the summit, you will contemplate the vastness of the Andean valleys. Afterward, we will descend to the Mitucocha campsite. There, the mountains rise majestically above the lagoon. You will rest in an environment of absolute peace before continuing the trek.

We begin our trek towards Carhuac Pass (4,650m). From this point, you will enjoy spectacular views of the snow-capped peaks of Siula and Yerupajá. Then, we will descend to Carhuacocha Lagoon. We will set up camp in one of the most iconic spots on the route. You will see the glaciers reflected in the turquoise waters at sunset. This landscape is undoubtedly unforgettable for any photographer.

Today we will hike to the Siula Viewpoint. This spot is famous for its views of three lagoons: Quesillococha, Siula, and Gangrajanca. You will observe how the blue of the water contrasts with the eternal white of the peaks. Afterward, we will continue to the Huayhuash campsite. It is a day filled with panoramic views that make this trek truly unique.

Today we’ll head towards the southern end of the mountain range. First, we’ll ascend to Portachuelo Pass (4,780m) to admire the Raura Range. Then, we’ll descend to Viconga Lagoon. There you’ll find the Guñog Hot Springs. You can relax in the medicinal hot waters after several days of physical exertion. Consequently, you’ll recover your energy for the second half of the trek.

Today we’ll cross Cuyoc Pass (5,050m). From this viewpoint, you’ll appreciate the snow-capped peaks of Trapecio, Sarapo, and Jurao in all their grandeur. Next, we’ll pass by the San Antonio Viewpoint. This spot is ideal for photographing the immensity of the mountain range from above. Finally, we’ll descend to the Cuyocpampa campsite to rest.

Today we will tackle the Santa Rosa Pass (5,070m). This point represents one of the highest and most exciting moments of the trek. You will enjoy unparalleled views of the surrounding snow-capped peaks. Afterward, we will begin a long descent into the Cutatambo Valley. Finally, we will arrive at the village of Huayllapa (3,600m). There, you can purchase local food and drinks to replenish your energy.

We will begin the uphill trek toward Tapush Pass (4,770m). During the ascent, you will see the Diablo Mudo snow-capped peak rising above the horizon. Later, we will descend to the Gashpapampa campsite. We will take advantage of the afternoon to rest in this tranquil valley. You will feel the satisfaction of completing a world-class trek.

After breakfast, we’ll ascend to Punta Llaucha Pass (4,850m). From the summit, you’ll enjoy breathtaking views of Jirishanca and Rondoy. Then, we’ll descend to Jahuacocha Lagoon. This campsite stands out as one of the most iconic and beautiful on the route. You’ll spend your last night surrounded by glaciers and idyllic lagoons.
