Itinerary
We will depart from Huaraz very early for Cuartelhuain. There, we will begin our hike following ancient shepherd trails. During the trek, you will appreciate the first high-mountain landscapes. After 6 hours of hiking, we will arrive at Mitucocha Lagoon (4,230m). We will set up our first camp facing imposing peaks. Finally, you will enjoy a hearty dinner surrounded by a unique natural environment.
After breakfast, we will ascend to Carhuac Pass. This spot serves as one of the best viewpoints on the route. From here, you will contemplate the majestic Yerupajá and the imposing Siula. Afterward, we will descend to Carhuacocha Lagoon. This campsite stands out as one of the most spectacular in the world. You will see the mountains reflected in the turquoise waters of the lagoon.
This day represents one of the most spectacular moments of the trek. We will hike to the Siula Viewpoint. From this point, you will have the classic view of the three glacial lakes. Then, we will continue the ascent to Siula Pass to admire the snow-capped horizon. Finally, we will begin the descent to our campsite in the Huayhuash Valley (4,350m).
After breakfast, we will head towards the southern end of the mountain range. During the day, you will ascend to Trapecio Pass. This point offers a privileged panoramic view of the glacial environment and the expansive valleys. Afterward, we will begin the descent to Cuyocpampa (4,560m). You will rest in a wide valley surrounded by imposing Andean landscapes. Consequently, you will recover your energy in a remote and tranquil setting.
Today we will reach the highest point of the trek: Santa Rosa Pass (5,070m). From the summit, you will appreciate iconic snow-capped peaks such as Sarapo and Jurao. The view is truly spectacular and breathtaking. Afterward, we will begin a long descent into the valley. Finally, we will arrive at the traditional village of Huayllapa (3,600m) to camp in a lush, green setting.
We will leave Huayllapa to ascend through a beautiful Andean valley. During the trek, you will climb to Tapush Pass (4,770m). After enjoying the panoramic views, we will continue our journey to Gashpapampa (4,570m). This tranquil valley is perfect for resting. We will also use the afternoon to prepare for the final leg of the trek.
After breakfast, we will ascend to Punta Llaucha Pass (4,850m). This viewpoint stands out as one of the most famous in the Huayhuash Mountain Range. From here, you will see the impressive Jahuacocha Lagoon. Afterward, we will descend to the shore of the lagoon to set up our final camp. You will contemplate the majestic mountains as the sun sets behind the snow-capped peaks.
On our last day, we will leave the beautiful lagoon behind after breakfast. We will gently ascend to Pampa Llamac Pass (4,300m) for one last panoramic view. Then, we will descend through the Huayllan Valley amidst forests of queñua trees. Finally, we will arrive at the village of Llamac. There, our transport will be waiting to take us back to Huaraz, thus concluding an extraordinary trek.
